Build your own sun lounger

A homemade wooden sun lounger turns the deck, poolside or lawn into your own little holiday spot – and you build it in a day or two. Here you’ll find DIY plans for sun loungers in two styles. Every plan is a digital file with a complete material and tool list, dimensioned drawings and step-by-step assembly instructions.

Straight or curved model?

• Sunbed simple – minimalist and robust with a straight design and an adjustable backrest with several positions, so you easily find the right angle for reading, resting or sunbathing. Lying surface 1880 × 600 mm – generous yet easy to move. Easy level, built in 1–2 days.
• Sunbed 01 – a sturdy sun lounger with a curved shape that gives a comfortable surface for both back and legs, built from closely spaced slats on an arched frame. Can be fitted with rear wheels so you easily move it to follow the sun. Medium level, built in about a day.

Timber and finishing

Both loungers are built in wood. Choose pressure-treated timber for outdoor durability, or build in heat-treated wood. For best comfort: sand all edges and corners with sandpaper or a sander.

How hard is it?

The simple lounger is easy level with straight cuts only. Model 01 is medium – the rounded side pieces are cut out with a jigsaw, the only more advanced step; the rest are straight cuts.
